A Good Friday

Outfit Breakdown:

Shirt: Jcrew Factory
Vest: Uniqueen
Jeans: Gap Link!
Shoes: Urban Outfitters Link!

I wore this outfit out to dinner with a friend last week, casual but put together (I hope!)... today I'm off from work and it's so nice to have a random day during the week to get stuff done.  Hope you all have a great weekend and Happy Easter if you celebrate!

Night on the Town

Outfit Breakdown:

Dress: ASOS Link! Pink, size 8 only
Pants: Cotton On
Shoes: Target
Cardigan: Marshalls
Earrings: Nicole Neeb

I wore this out this past weekend for my friends birthday in Hoboken.  I got these pants a while ago, I wanted to try the (p)leather pant trend but didn't want to spend a lot of money because I wasn't sure if it would look good on me.  These pants were super cheap and I like them with a longer top BUT they are very noisy haha.  When I walk they "squeak squeak squeak"... so they sat in my drawer.
We went to Wicked Wolf, and I knew it would be loud, so I was able to finally break them out! Haha ;)

Tough and Girly

Outfit Breakdown:

Shirt: ASOS Link! limited sizes in black
Tank: Loft
Jeans: Gap Link!
Shoes: American Eagle Outfitters
Bracelet: Banana Republic, gift

I wore this outfit out at night last week for a drink and I like the mix of feminine on top and more of a tough look on the bottom.  I just got these boyfriend jeans at the gap and they are very comfortable and they aren't too baggy like some boyfriend jeans can be!  Looking at the pictures now, I'm not sure if I love them with these shoes... oh well, too late ;)
I have worn this shirt a few times before on the blog (and even more off the blog) and it's easily one of my favorite purchases this year, unfortunately it's not left in many sizes and only in black... but if you're really small on top go get it!!

Shades of Gray

Outfit Breakdown:

Dress: Victoria's Secret
Tights: Target
Shoes: Payless
Scarf: Loft

Sorry for the unintended blogging break, last week was so busy and I didn't have time to upload pictures!  Anyway, this outfit was worn last week (spring where are you!?) and I played around with different grays and metallics.  I like the way it came out!

Glasses

Outfit Breakdown:

Shirt: Zara
Cardigan: Loft
Pants: Jcrew
Shoes: Naturalizer, $3 garage sale find

I have this illness where anytime I see something with glasses on it, I buy it.  I feel like it's my duty as an eye doctor.  But really, how many glasses things do I need?  I probably have four or five neaklaces of glasses.  I saw this top last year on Zara's website and before I knew it, it was in my "cart" and I was putting in my credit card number... oh well it's cute ;)

Genius

Outfit Breakdown:

Dress: Anthropologie, old
Cardigan: Marshalls
Booties: Target
Tank: Target

I love this dress I got a couple years ago at Anthro but it's pretty low cut so I don't usually wear it to work.  Then I had a brilliant idea to layer it over a tank and wear a cardigan (I know, I know... it's genius).  It's hard to appreciate the color of this dress with my crappy iPhone pics but it's really one of my favorite color blues!
I decided to wear a more sheer set of black tights since it's getting a bit warmer out but still isn't warm enough for bare legs.  I like the contrast!

Royal Look

Outfit Breakdown:

Shirt: French Connection Link! (only available in black in size 12)
Cardigan: Loft
Pants: BCBG, old
Shoes: Banana Republic, old

In my closet cleanout last weekend (where I didn't really get rid of anything) I discovered a few things I hadn't worn yet this winter... mostly I haven't been wearing stiletto heels to work very often.  I've given myself over to feeling comfortable, but sometimes I feel like I might be lacking a bit in professionalism.

I also mostly wear cropped pants, it's easy because I can wear any shoe or I can tuck them into boots.  But looking at these pictures, I do feel like my body type looks better in this type of dress pant.  So, might be trying to wear this look a bit more often!

I've worn this top before on the blog, but since I have worn it last, I've found out that Kate Middleton wore the this top in navy for her first royal portrait!  I know it's silly, but I feel "cool" to have something Kate has worn ;)

Pop of Color

Outfit Breakdown:

Shirt: Gap- don't see online, but just got on sale in store
Skirt: Loft, old
Boots: Nine West Outlet

Adding a little more color into my outfits is making me feel like Spring is on the way!  And thankfully the weather is starting to cooperate as well.  (Besides that random snowstorm last week...)

Yesterday my family and I went to NYC to see Newsies and it was so good!!  I loved that movie growing up and it was so cool to see it in the theater.  We were sitting at about the seventh row, so we could see them spitting (literally) and it was fun to be able to see their faces and the dancing up close.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Boyfriend style

Outfit Breakdown:

Shirt: Gap
Pants: Gap
Shoes: Urban Outfitters Link!
Belt: ASOS

All of the pieces in this outfit are pretty simple but when they all came together I really like the casual yet put-togetherness of the look.  I got this shirt a year or two ago at the Gap and I have struggled to style it because it is a "boyfriend" style and I just feel like it always looks big, especially in the shoulders.  However, in these pictures and with a belt I'm liking it... maybe it will be on rotation more often!

So this winter storm had a delayed "hit" and came overnight and into this AM (and it's still snowing)... it's kind of mystifying because even though it's been snowing, the roads are actually OK just a little bit wet.  I was a little nervous to go to work today, but no problems, whew!

Where is spring?!?!

Masculine/Feminine

Outfit Breakdown:

Shirt: Forever 21
Pants: Banana Republic
Boots: American Eagle Outfitters Link!

I kind of threw this outfit together one morning and didn't really think about it, but looking at the pictures I like the mix of casual and fancy.  The corduroys and booties are casual and kind of masculine and the lace top and pearls add a feminine touch.

On a separate note, are we getting snow or not??  I feel like they keep saying different things... I woke up this morning and nothing, just some flurries.  But now they're saying tonight perhaps we will get some snow.  Maybe they just shouldn't say anything, it would be just as good ;)

Copycat

Outfit Breakdown:

Dress: French Connection
Shoes: Tory Burch Link!

I bought this dress last winter because Pippa Middleton wore it (shocking I know) and I do love it, I'm not sure if it looks quite as good on me as on her... but it's a cute professional looking work dress!

Basic Black with a Polka Twist

Outfit Breakdown:

Shirt: Talbots
Cardigan: Loft
Skirt: Calvin Klein, old
Tights: Gap, out of stock
Booties: Target

Classic black skirt spiced up with a polka dot top and gray tights for a little break in the all black.
I have a few blouses with this tie-neakline and I like that it dresses the outfit up, plus no neaklace needed!

This weekend I went through my closet to try to get rid of some stuff (I barely got rid of anything- surprise surprise), however I was able to look at and organize what I have, and see what I have (and haven't) worn this winter.  I'm going to attempt to work some pieces in and if I haven't by the end of winter, byebye.

This is also going to help me with my "trying to cut back on shopping" stint I'm trying to implement.  I really want to try and save a bit more each month and I honestly have so many clothes that I really don't need anything... but that's not why we shop? Right?? Haha.

Out on the Town

Outfit Breakdown:

Shirt: LC Lauren Conrad Link!
Blazer: Urban Outfitters, old
Short: Zara
Tights: not sure
Booties: Target

I wore this outfit out last weekend to a friend's birthday in Hoboken.  I got these shorts at a Zara sale a while ago and hadn't worn them yet.  I like the "shorts and tights" look on others but wasn't sure if it was really my style or if it would look good on me because I'm more of a pear shape.
However, I think this look came out pretty good and it was super comfortable!  I definitely don't think I could have pulled it off without black tights but I'm ok with that ;)

I am loving this top I got from LC Lauren Conrad for Kohls'.  It's a tank so it will work great in the summer but was perfect here under a blazer.  I also feel like this outfit was sexy without showing too much skin (too old and not really into that!).

This is also a different look for my hair, I got a new curling wand from Hot Tools and it gave a tighter but more beachy wave.

Hope you had a good weekend!

Rugby

Outfit Breakdown:

Shirt: Rugby Ralph Lauren
Pants: Gap
Shoes: Converse Link!

This is a look I wore on a casual day last weekend.  I had been wanting a rugby shirt for about a year now (not my usual style but wanted one none the less) and I asked for, and received, this Ralph Lauren Rugby shirt for my birthday in January.  I went to find it to link for you guys and realized that Ralph Lauren CLOSED their Rugby line in February!  Pretty crazy stuff and I'm surprised.  I thought they had some cool "collegiate" and preppy clothes.

Watercolors

Outfit Breakdown:

Shirt: H & M, recent
Pants: Talbots
Cardigan: Old Navy (old)
Shoes: Target (old)
Bag: Tory Burch

Last Monday I went in to the city to have brunch with my best friend who got engaged on Valentines Day!! (yay!)  We went to this cute little place Lallisse and I got to hear the whole romantic story.

I generally always take the train in to the city, it's easy and I'm not a fan of driving in NY but the downside is you're dictated by train times.  I had about 45 minute to kill before my train home and (of course) decided to stop at H & M which is right by Penn Station.  I have done this a few times but don't usually buy anything, just look around-- but this time I spotted this cute top and at first I walked by but I kept thinking about it so I went back and grabbed a size 6 and then proceeded to spend 30 min trying to check out (not a fan).  I NEVER buy things without trying them on but there just wasn't time and it worked out pretty well except the arm holes are a little small and it rubs under my arms so if you end up getting it size up!  I love the print, it's just so dreamy and reminds me of a Monet painting.

Prints

Outfit Breakdown:

Cardigan: Loft, old
Shirt: Target, old
Pants: Gap Link!
Shoes: American Eagle Outfitters Link! limited sizes
Scarf: Bass, gift

My parents recently went on vacation and this little gem of a scarf was their gift for me!  I LOVE the print and it's going to look great in the spring-time... the colors are my favorites (greens and blues). I hope you all have a great weekend!  I'm looking forward to it, I have my book club tonight with my girlfriends and then I have a friend's birthday in Hoboken tomorrow :)

Grandma

Outfit Breakdown:

Tank: Loft
Cardigan: Gap
Pants: Loft
Shoes: American Eagle Outfitters Link! (in coral)

I got a lecture from my mom the other day for wearing cropped pants and flats all the time, without socks or stockings... she's like, "Aren't you freezing!?" So I decided to give knee-high's a whirl and I actually like the contrast with this outfit.  Maybe it will be a trend ;)

Neon

Outfit Breakdown:

Shirt: Loft
Blazer: Gap Link! (in pink or white)
Pants: Jcrew Link!
Shoes: Target
Scarf: Gap Link!

I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of neon, it just feels too 80's for me... however in small doses and accessories I feel it can add a pop to an otherwise boring outfit.  I am partial to bright greens and yellows for some reason and I recently got this scarf at The Gap and I'm in love!  The color is great and it's very lightweight so I don't feel like I'm being strangled all day ;)  Sometimes I have trouble with scarves at work because they kind of get in my way but this isn't too big.  And as promised, it added a nice fun pop to this boring winter outfit.

Multi-purpose

Outfit Breakdown:

Dress: Banana Republic
Cardigan: Loft
Shoes: Target

I got this dress a couple years ago at Banana Republic, it wasn't cheap and I didn't really need another dress... but it fit so nice and it was comfortable!
I took the plunge and it's become a staple in my wardrobe.  The colorblocking is very flattering and interesting and the fabric is stretch so it's really easy to move in.  I feel like it can be dressed up or down, I've worn it to a wedding, work and errands!
